How To Contribute

The most important members on the HYFA are those who give their support through financial contributions. The tax-deductible contributions of American Hereford Association members and partners who see the potential of the HYFA in bettering our society make-up the vast majority of the HYFA support system. HYFA supports the programs and activities that not only benefit the Hereford breed today but also helps establish the future of the Hereford breed for tomorrow’s youth. The most common methods of giving include traditional methods such as: cash donations, sponsorships and memorials.

Check out “Planning Your Legacy” to learn how creating an estate plan will ease the transition for the
next generation and may provide opportunities for youth.

Scholarship Establishment

Establishing a scholarship through the Hereford Youth Foundation of America can be extremely rewarding because of the direct impact it has on young men and women during their formative high school and college years. Through scholarships, donors can memorialize loved ones or even their own experiences within the Hereford breed. These scholarships and who or what they represent will forever be a part of future Hereford generations. Donors can establish a scholarship that benefits particular students or groups of individuals. We invite your earnest consideration of this effective and personal means of support. The benefits of creating a scholarship can last a lifetime, for both the donor and for the scholarship recipients.

Types of Scholarship Funds

Often donors will tailor their scholarships to suit their personal interests and passions. By working with the HYFA Board of Directors, donors can reward Hereford juniors for their success within the National Junior Hereford Association, support students for their academic achievement, or support students who otherwise would not be able to attend a college or university.

Expendable fund: A scholarship without an endowed account or with an account less than the $25,000 minimum requirement may establish an independent expendable account for scholarship awards. A scholarship account is created and contributions are deposited to that account. Distributions are made from the account in accordance with criteria established by the donor. The scholarship will be awarded each year until the fund is depleted.

Endowed scholarship: A minimum contribution of $25,000 perpetually funds an endowed scholarship.

With both expendable and endowed scholarships, the donor names the fund and establishes the selection criteria within the parameters already set-forth by the HYFA.

Regardless of how you choose to fund a scholarship, you will be richly rewarded with the knowledge that your support helped make it possible for a young man or woman to attend college.

Memorials

Memorial Gifts may be given to the Hereford Youth Foundation of America in memory of a loved one, friend or associate involved in the Hereford breed, the beef industry or agricultural community.

Giving to the Hereford Youth Foundation of America is a great way to show the love and appreciation of an individual or loved one. A gift to the HYFA in memory of an individual will allow their passion and love for the Hereford breed to live on by supporting programs that provide inspiration and leadership for our Hereford youth involved in the continuation of our great breed.

Memorials can be established by identifying the Hereford Youth Foundation of America as the noted receiver of memorials at the time of death of a loved one or friend. There is no minimum amount required to establish a memorial fund in a loved ones memory. The giver will receive an official letter recognizing their tax-deductible gift was received by the HYFA in the stated person’s memory. In addition, the family for whom the memorial has been given will receive an official letter notifying them of the memorial gift and from whom the memorial gift was received.

Endowments

Endowments that are awarded for specific purposes can be established through the Hereford Youth Foundation of America to provide funding for scholarships, specific programs, or awards through the National Junior Hereford Association.

One of the purposes of the Hereford Youth Foundation of America endowment fund is to provide Hereford juniors who have been involved in junior activities the opportunity to receive a scholarship to further their education, recognize them for their achievement or provide funding for specific programs of the HYFA.

Eligibility and criteria of the applicant are a collaboration of the HYFA Board of Directors, individual, family or group giving the award.

The minimum amount needed for an endowment is $25,000.
